He loved his grandchildren and had a soft spot in his heart for animals. If John could not afford to buy it, he tried to figure out how to build it. He loved to repair old lawn movers and sell them at rummage sales for extra spending money. He especially loved figuring out how things worked and could repair almost anything from lawn movers to large farm equipment. John had many talents when it came to using his hands. In 1997, they moved to Mandan following their retirement. Together they made their home on the Aman Family Farmstead in rural Oliver County which they raised their four children, Suzanne, Tony, Mary and Lisa.
